As you can see from the top rankings, Russian NFT artists can indeed make very good money. But it is also easy to see that all of these artists became famous before they entered the NFT platforms. The record earners are Pussy Riot, the world-famous punk band; all the others have either been in the market for a long time or have worked with high-profile brands and have an established audience of fans. Although some of the artists said in interviews that they managed to earn such substantial money only with the help of NFT, but the importance of their brand no one denied. Can a budding artist make money with NFT?

Why did the NFT attract artists?

Each object offered on the NFT exchanges is absolutely unique, there is no other token like it and it cannot be exchanged, so it is a “non-fungible token” – a non-interchangeable token. The fact that the NFT token is unique allows it to be used as a digital certificate, which certifies the author’s ownership of an object he created. It is this property that has attracted artists, including established and famous ones, to the NFT market.

It is no secret that in the virtual world the problem of protecting the rights to content is very acute. The fight between “pirates” and authors has been ongoing for decades. NFT tokens are one of the revolutionary solutions for copyright protection. The essential advantage of irreplaceable tokens is that they can be exhibited and sold, but the rights to the object created by the author remain with the author all the time.

How much does the NFT cost?

If you look at the statistics, the value of tokens just approved for listing, that is, the initial value, is relatively small, from 0.0001 USDT. In the actual token section, the prices are already substantial, starting at 100 USDT. But we are not talking about hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands of dollars for the vast majority of artists. That is, on this platform, the authors can consider their creations as an investment tool, if it is possible to go from 0.1 to 100 dollars, then it’s a very good result. In terms of total sales of all the works, the amount of earnings of some artists for the entire period of their trade is already impressive.

On the platform Juggerworld (https://jgnnft.com/) exhibit more expensive works of authorship, both in the section of the latest collections and in the section of popular pictures and other creations. The value ranges from about $10 to $200,000 in the cryptocurrency BNB. On the platform. Treasureland (https://treasureland.market/) put up pictures for less than $10 on average. The list of the most successful sellers shows not a very large volume of sales per day, the buyers have even less.

On the Marketplace Binance (https://www.binance.com/ru/nft/market) prices for the content displayed are an order of magnitude higher than on most other platforms. Perhaps this is due to a larger audience or a more demanding moderation. At OpenSea (https://opensea.io/) greater price spread, also possibly due to the popularity of the platform. Thus, NFT tokens should be treated as another way to make money from creativity, but one should not expect miracles from the technology. The technology provides a great way to show one’s talent to a paying audience and to have one’s creativity valued almost arbitrarily.

If an artist thinks his work is worth a million, he can offer that price on the NTF platform. But how much a painting will really be worth will be decided by the audience. Most likely, no one will buy a picture by an unknown beginner for a million, so we will have to do what we usually do – to work – to draw a picture, to perfect the skill, to upload it to the platform, to wait for the public to appreciate. It cannot be ruled out that you can win the public’s interest quickly, but it is also possible that you will have to work long and hard.

How to evaluate a painting and where to sell it?

There are no services for evaluating works on the platforms, most only have moderation, which evaluates content for compliance with the rules. You can evaluate your work based on what the average price is for similar content on a particular NTF exchange. It is thought that a single token should cost more than a token in a series of tokens, but this is not required and is at the author’s discretion.

For entry-level content, if no one knows the author, the price is unlikely to be high. The first pictures or other visual objects in general can serve a test function – whether the public likes them, whether users are willing to pay at least some money for them. It is also logical to assume that beforehand we should look at what order of prices is set for the content of a certain type, and what objects remain unclaimed. Also, we should not forget that the price should include the cost of creating the artifact – at least the costs should be recouped.

Marketplaces

NFT tokens are placed on special platforms – marketplaces. They can be centralized or decentralized. The author has to take a picture, scan his works, bring them into a format that can be digitized. The digital objects are uploaded to the platform, where they are turned into tokens. The author leaves a description of the token, sets a price, and then either sends it immediately for sale, or sends it for moderation, and if it meets the requirements, it is put up for sale. You can sell a single token or a series of tokens, at a fixed price, or offer to buy from an auction. There are many NFT-platforms already, but a few are popular, among them are the leaders of the ratings of NFT-exchanges:

NFT-artists from all over Russia and other countries can paintings on the exchanges. It should be remembered that to sell tokens you need an e-wallet and cryptocurrencies in it, which are needed to pay commissions on the NFT-platform.
