Cheap books.. that's all
So, I really wanted to love Book Outlet. The idea of grabbing cheap books that are technically new but overstocked or remaindered sounded like a no-brainer. But after my first order, I’m not exactly thrilled.
I bought four books: a fantasy novel, a biography, and two self-help titles. They were all super affordable, under $5 each, which excited me. But once they arrived, I felt let down. One book had a dust jacket that looked like someone had used it as a coaster. Another had a scratch down the front cover. The inside pages were fine, but the presentation just wasn’t there.
It’s not that I expected them to be pristine, but there’s a difference between a remainder mark and a book that looks like it fell off a truck. I also didn’t love the packaging. The books were loosely packed in a box that was slightly crushed on one side. Thankfully, nothing was destroyed, but the damage to the jacket might have come from the lack of padding.
Shipping took about 9 days, which felt slow compared to what we’re all used to these days. I know, I know it’s not Amazon. But still, I kept refreshing the tracking page, hoping for updates.
The selection on the site is decent, but it feels kind of chaotic. Searching for a specific genre or topic is harder than it should be. I felt like I had to scroll endlessly to find anything interesting. And the fact that you can’t always filter out damaged or marked books makes it more of a gamble.
Would I order again? Maybe, but I wouldn’t use this site for gifts or anything I care deeply about. It’s okay if you just want cheap reads for yourself and don’t care much about how they look.
